To provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can boost their grades and build their confidence.
Our Promise
The relationships we build at Tutor Tots are all very important to us. We promise to treat all children and parents with the respect they deserve. We promise to provide an environment that puts the fun back into learning, gives children permission to express themselves, nurtures a child's learning journey, builds confidence, and celebrates the uniqueness in every child.
Please text Tutor Tots at 416-433-4863 to cancel any classes. Please do not email.
Contract
Before starting with Tutor Tots, you will be asked to complete an Agreement for Tutoring Services which will include the type of tutoring, child's name, parent information, emergency contact, cancellation policy, terms and conditions, et cetera. All information is kept confidential, as per the Privacy Act of Canada. Failure to comply with the terms of the Agreement may result in immediate termination of tutoring services.
Payments
Make Up Classes
Your child is eligible for a make up class if his/her class is cancelled by 9:00 a.m. on the day of his/her tutoring session.* In addition, emergency situations will be assessed by Tutor Tots and whether a make up class is provided or not will be at the discretion of Tutor Tots. Please note that you cannot have more than 2 make up classes on the cancellation list. If you exceed the 2, every cancellation after the permitted 2 will not be eligible for a make up class. Hence, it is imperative that you take every opportunity to make up a cancelled class when a make up class is offered to you. *Please see exceptions below.
Cancellations/Make-Up Classes/Too Many Cancellations
Cancellations must be made by 9:00 a.m. on the day of your child's tutoring session. Any cancellations after 9:00 a.m. will be charged for the full session and will not be eligible for a make up class. In addition, too many cancellations may result in a termination of tutoring services. Termination will be at the discretion of Tutor Tots. Please text Tutor Tots at 416-433-4863 to cancel any classes. Please do not email.
No Shows
Any no-shows (cancellation notification not given at all or a cancellation given after your child's scheduled time has already begun) will be subject to the full class fee and will not be eligible for a make up class. In addition, tutors will remain online for 10 minutes. If a student does not show up for class, the tutor will end the class, and this will be considered a no-show.
Class Cancellations by Tutor Tots
A calendar for the school year can be found at www.tutortots.ca under "Calendar."
Any cancelled classes by Tutor Tots will be fulfilled in a make up class (other than those classes cancelled for statutory holidays, March break, et cetera) or a reimbursement of payment.
Termination of Services
The Agreement for Tutoring Services may be terminated by either party at any time.
Assigned Tutor
Tutor Tots will assign your child to the tutor best qualified to address your child's needs. However, Tutor Tots cannot guarantee that your child will see this tutor at every scheduled class. Illness, vacation, family emergencies, exams, et cetera, might necessitate the assignment of a different tutor. If Tutor Tots assigns another tutor to teach your child, we will ensure that the tutor has the qualifications necessary to provide the best learning environment for your child.
Two-Subject Tutoring
Tutor Tots no longer offers two-subject tutoring. We recommend that you choose your child's most significant area of need. However, if, for example, we are tutoring your child for English and he/she is having problems with a particular math strand, we can certainly focus on that problem area. If we do focus on the math for a short period of time, then we will not continue with English.
If your child needs help in more than one subject area on a more full-time basis, we recommend booking classes twice a week.
Homework (from Tutor Tots)
Your child will receive homework at every class (high school students may not). The homework is an extension of what has been taught in the classroom. Homework completion is an important learning component of our program. However, we also acknowledge that school work takes priority over any assigned homework from Tutor Tots. Having said that, it is important to note that repeated failure to complete the assigned homework will slow down the learning process.
NEW: Tutor Tots will not assign new homework until the homework already assigned has been completed.
Schoolwork
Please bring any schoolwork to your child's tutoring class. We are here to help your child with his/her schoolwork, and by helping your child with his/her schoolwork we will have a better understanding of his/her teacher's expectations. For Online, upload the schoolwork into your child's scheduled class (see the Online Tutoring Instructions).
Expectations
Tutor Tots prides itself on creating personalized programs that will help your child boost his/her grades and build his/her confidence. Although we have a success rate that we are extremely proud of, we cannot guarantee this, so we ask that parents manage their expectations. If your child is attending once a week vs. twice a week, this makes a difference in the learning process. If your child is combining two subject areas into one class versus spending one hour on each subject, this too makes a difference in the learning process. If your child is not doing his/her homework, this will slow down the learning process. If Tutor Tots is not provided with information on what is being taught in the child's school classroom, we cannot guarantee we will cover the same material, so this will slow down the learning process. Of more importance, every child learns at a different pace, so it is not fair to compare your child to someone else's.
Having said that, extracurricular activities are also an important part of a child's development. Often times family obligations and family dynamics do not create an environment where children can attend more than once a week. In addition, sometimes attending twice a week has a negative impact on the child because it's too much tutoring for them. This is why we offer the once a week classes, as not all children thrive when attending twice a week.
At Tutor Tots, our goal is help children succeed. We are committed to this. Therefore, under no circumstances will Tutor Tots keep tutoring a child that it feels it cannot help, as this is not fair to Tutor Tots, the parent(s) but, most importantly, the child.
Blog
Tutor Tots has a blog page located on its website at www.tutortots.ca. This blog is filled with valuable information that may assist with your child's learning.
Extra Programs
From time to time, Tutor Tots will introduce some programs independent of one-on-one tutoring. For example, we may host a fundraiser to help members of our community. We may host a writing competition or math competition. These extra programs are at no extra charge and are aimed at building confidence and getting your children excited about learning.
Why do we do fundraising? Studies have shown that helping others has a profound effect on your brain's chemistry. It promotes joy, gives you a sense of purpose, helps you create a better relationship with yourself, and build self-esteem.
Participation in any of these programs is voluntary and not mandatory.
Calendar
There is a calendar on this website that highlights important dates to remember. These dates include days that Tutor Tots is closed along with PA days, exam dates, et cetera, for both the Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. Please refer to this calendar.
